Simon Whitehouse

Simon's approach is to work with leaders and their teams to initially understand the current environment within which they are operating and to then help them maximise their chances of success using simple, practical people management/development tools.  Simon’s style is to be open, creative and encouraging, yet challenging.  

 

After completing his degree and PhD Simon started his business career in the development of software for customers ranging from UK utilities companies, the US and UK Governments and the European Space Agency.  Over an 8 year period this gave Simon exposure to working in, and managing, small and large teams in both single-company and multi-national consortiums, where he learned the importance of project management techniquesclear objectives, organisational structure and team work.

 

The next 4 years were spent managing and developing graduates joining IBM’s Global Services organisation in the UK.  Here, Simon gained exposure to the fundamentals of people management.  He was heavily involved in recruiting and training over 250 graduates per year whilst managing a team of up to 50 graduates at any one time.  This period in Simon’s career highlighted the critical nature of the core management skills of recruitment, motivation and development and the importance of managing talent within an organisation.

 

Simon’s final 3 years in IBM were in the Outsourcing business, managing the transition of employees into IBM.  During this time he worked with employees from a global pharmaceutical company, a major UK high-street retailer and UK and Global Financial Services companies where he managed cultural integration activities.  In particular he specialised in helping transferring managers adapt to their new role within the IBM organisation.  This further developed Simon’s coaching skills.

 

Having worked for the largest technology company in the world, Simon then spent almost 3 years working for the world's largest financial services company – Citigroup.  First as Head of HR for the Credit Card business in the UK and then as Head of Training & Development for the UK Consumer Business, Simon learned the importance of a cohesive people-management strategy built upon sound communication of a shared vision.  He introduced a performance and development culture and transformed the management of people with a focus on basic leadership skills.

 

Throughout Simon’s career he has engaged in coaching activities and has instructed on major Leadership & Management development programmes.  He has also facilitated numerous management and employee workshops and managed significant change programmes.

 

Since forming Balanced Perspectives Limited Simon has worked for a wide range of clients including a major UK regional shopping centre, the MD of an international sporting retailer, an advertising agency, an accountancy firm and 3 UK Government departments.

 

Simon is qualified in the SHL OPQ and ability tests, MBTI, FIRO-B, WAVE, Transactional Analysis and the GELI and PDI Profiler 360 degree tools.
